When making cold process soaps, I always end with spraying 99.9% isopropyl alcohol on top of my batches before they sit for the night and I cut into them. Why?? All because of soda ash, which is just an ashy film that can occur over the tops of your soaps. 🙄 It is caused by the unsaponified lye in the soap reacting to the natural carbon dioxide in the air. It is strictly cosmetic, doesn’t affect your soap or the properties of the soap at all, but it certainly is annoying!😩 Spraying the alcohol on top of the soap creates a barrier between the unsaponified lye and the air. 😌 I found that sometimes the alcohol helps, and sometimes it doesn’t help as much depending on the recipe. However I do choose to always spray it just in case!🙏
