Look at all of those colors😍 🌈
On my right I have all of my 100% natural clays and powders I used to bring color to my soaps, and on my left I have all of my bright, fun, “mica” colorants! Mica is a mineral that is mined from the earth. 🌏 Most mica powders are considered “nature identical,” which just means it is made of materials that have the same chemical composition of naturally occuring minerals. Micas are natural minerals, but, they also contain derived minerals, and derived minerals are created in a lab.🧪However, they have the same chemical composition of natural minerals! Which is why they are considered nature identical, rather than 100% natural. All of the ingredients in these particular mica powders are FDA approved. They can be safely used for soap, and other body products!
So my question to you is…do you prefer your soaps or body products to be made with 100% natural clays and powders? Or maybe you like to have fun with crazy bright and vibrant colors like micas? Or are you somewhere in between and like both? (I personally like to experiment with both👩🏻🔬)
Have a great rest of your weekend, and if you need me I’ll be in the lab experimenting with my new colorants!🎨

Happy Monday loves!💖 Here is a quick lesson on some the chemistry that goes into soap making🧪
Sodium hydroxide, or more commonly known as lye, is a chemical compound that maintains the pH of skincare products. It’s important to understand the role that sodium hydroxide plays in keeping skin healthy and why it’s a key ingredient in soap. You must use it to make cold process soap, like the ones I make!😋
In soap making sodium hydroxide is combined with water, and then a chemical change happens, it begins to heat up and can reach temperatures up to 200 degrees. 🥵 so it is caustic and can be extremely dangerous to work with. Always make sure you’re being careful when working with any sort of chemicals😱
