Sitting for long periods of time can cause an excessive tightening of the hip flexors and excessive lengthening of the lower back muscles.
It also causes your shoulders to round and droop forward, resulting in tension in the chest and weakening of the muscles in the upper back and neck.
Over time this leads to imbalances in your skeletal structure and most likely lots of pain.
It also compresses your digestive system, slowsblood flow, and can contribute to brain fog and gut issues.
There’s nothing that feels better than shaking it out a few times a day, so use a rebounder and make sure you try things like the bridge pose.
The bridge pose is AMAZING to counteract long periods of sitting.
It helps to reverse flexion of the hip flexors, and opens up your hips. It also opens the chest and strengthens your upper back.
It’s a great pose to do for anyone who notices that they droop in the shoulders – be that while standing or sitting.
Overall, stretching is massively underutilised. It gets the bloodflowing, loosens the body, relaxes and forces you to destress.
It’s amazing for mental health & helps improve sleep too.
Including stretches in your daily routine has SO many benefits.
Not only can stretching help you avoid injuries, it may also help slow down age-related mobility loss and improve circulation.
